Colourful Flowers and Books

Gouache & Ink

This painting is part of an ongoing series where I explore everyday still life scenes through bold colour and expressive mark-making. I was thinking about the comfort of indoor plants, the way books stack up over time, and how both can quietly shape a space.

Painted with a mixture of acrylic and ink, this piece brings together some of my favourite things — foliage, colour, and those in-between moments of calm. I wanted it to feel joyful but grounded, using warm reds, golds, and greens against a cool blue background to give the feeling of sunlight through a window.

The shapes are intentionally a little exaggerated and layered — almost like memory. It’s not about realism, but about the energy of a room, or the mood of a quiet morning surrounded by things that grow and hold stories.

It’s a playful, slightly messy celebration of home, plants, and the pile of books we keep meaning to read.

Messy Flowers

Gouache & Ink

This one came together on a day when I really just wanted to feel the heat of summer — that full, rich Mediterranean warmth that clings to your skin and makes everything feel alive. I didn’t worry too much about the structure; I just let the flowers tumble across the page, as if they were spilling out of a sunlit courtyard, wild and overgrown.

The bold reds and blues against the golden yellow are meant to be a little chaotic — like heatwaves in colour. I wanted it to feel full of life and slightly untamed, like a garden in high summer where everything’s just slightly past perfect and all the more beautiful for it.

I think sometimes the messier paintings say more. This one reminds me to loosen up and let the colours lead.

Tulips in a Blue Jug

Gouache & Ink

This piece was painted with the feeling of a slow morning in mind — that quiet, golden moment when the sunlight hits the kitchen just right. I imagined I was in a Tuscan farmhouse, having a cup of tea at a wooden table, with fresh flowers from the garden in a bright blue jug.

The tulips are bold and a little wild, just how I love them — not too neat, full of life and shape. The background is warm and sun-soaked, and I wanted the contrast of the cobalt vase to really ground the composition. The palette is intentionally warm and welcoming, with that hint of rustic charm that makes you breathe a bit deeper.

I painted this one to cheer myself up really — something joyful, full of movement and colour, that could hang on a wall and bring a little bit of that Italian sunshine into an ordinary day.

Blue Eyes

Gouache & Ink

This piece is inspired by my love for comics and the vibrant energy of Warhol’s pop art. I wanted to explore how much expression can be captured in just a few bold, fine lines.

The intense blue eyes and striking red lips give the face a powerful presence, while the bright yellow background brings everything to life with a playful, almost electric quality.

By using simple yet dynamic shapes, I aimed to create a portrait that feels alive with emotion—showing how much can be said with just the right combination of colour and line.

Reggie

Oil on Canvas

Here’s Reggie, looking all cute and fluffy! This is part of my Pawtrait collection, which I’m offering as a limited service this summer.

I had so much fun capturing Reggie’s personality, and I think his playful, furry charm really shines through here. The turquoise background just makes him pop, don’t you think? If you’ve got a four-legged friend who deserves a little artwork of their own, Pawtraits are the perfect way to do it.

Let me turn your pet into a masterpiece! 🐾

Syrian Marketplace

Oil on Canvas

Here’s a lively oil on canvas piece of a bustling market scene in Damascus, full of life and colour!

This oil on canvas piece aims to brings the vibrant chaos of a market in Damascus to life. The colours are bold, the energy’s electric, and you can almost smell the spices in the air! I’ve kept the figures simple yet striking—because sometimes, less is more, right?

But look closely, and you’ll spot a little wink at the patriarchy hidden in there... I couldn't resist!

It’s on display at Broadway Contemporary Art Gallery right now, so if you’re nearby, go have a peek!

Joyce

Oil on Canvas

Meet Joyce—she’s giving moody, thoughtful and maybe just a touch judgy.

I didn't plan every detail, but instead, let the brushwork guide me. As I painted, her features started to take shape, and before I knew it, she was there—quiet, thoughtful, and full of life, almost like she’s been waiting to be seen.

Turkish Coffee

Oil on Canvas

This painting is my little ode to the timeless art of rug shopping and Turkish tea-drinking.

I once spent three hours haggling over a rug with a gentleman just like this in a souk in Istanbul.

The process was slow, deliberate, and full of charm—much like this man, pouring tea with care.

The vibrant red and orange backdrop of the woven rugs is there to evoke the warmth of the souk, and the steady rhythm of sipping tea while the hours slip by. It’s a memory wrapped in colours, a snapshot of patience, tradition, and the beauty of a well-brewed cup.

I am so glad I persevered. I love my rug.

Motorbike Marketplace

Oil on Canvas

This piece is inspired by a photo I took in the bustling market of Sana’a, Yemen.

Amidst the crowd, there was this guy with some serious motorbike skills—so smooth, so effortless, weaving through the market like it was nothing. I wanted to capture that sense of movement and the vibrant chaos around him, so I chose a monochrome palette to let the figures pop.

The scene is full of energy and flow, with the blue tones giving it a cool, almost dreamlike vibe. It’s all about the quiet intensity of a market that never stops, even when everything else seems to stand still.

White Blossom on Yellow

Oil on Canvas

This piece is all about mixing textures and tones. The mustard yellow background sets a warm, almost calming mood, while the delicate white blossoms create a contrast with their textured, almost sculptural feel.

I wanted the branches and flowers to feel almost alive, as though you could reach out and touch them. The simplicity of the dark, almost shadowy vase adds a grounding effect, letting the blooms take centre stage. It’s a blend of softness and strength, where colour and texture work together to bring the whole thing to life.

Little Baby Elephant

Ink & Watercolour

I love the idea of baby elephants—how crazy long their mamas are pregnant and how those tiny faces first peek out into the world. There’s something so beautiful and innocent about that moment of discovery.

In this piece, I wanted to capture the softness of that first glance, with the elephant’s gentle expression coming through in the delicate strokes. The simple use of black and white lets the textures and contours of the elephant’s face speak for themselves, highlighting the strength and tenderness that comes with new life. It’s that feeling of awe and wonder as the world begins to unfold, one tiny step at a time.

Mama and Baby

Watercolour

This is one of my very first paintings, and it still holds a special place in my heart.

There’s something about the raw emotion in it—the simplicity of the moment, the connection, and the feeling of intimacy that comes through. The vibrant blue background contrasts beautifully with the earthy tones of the figures, creating a sense of warmth and closeness, almost like a memory or a dream. Even though it’s an early work, there’s a depth and tenderness that I still find captivating. It's a reminder of how far I’ve come, but also how much that feeling of love and connection has always been at the core of my art.

Hibiscus

Watercolour & Ink

These vibrant hibiscus flowers are a nod to my time growing up in Singapore, where they’re everywhere.

The lush, fiery red petals and delicate shapes are so comforting to me, almost like a piece of home. Every time I see them, I’m reminded of the warmth and beauty of the place. I wanted to capture that sense of comfort and familiarity in this piece—bright, bold, and bursting with life. The black outlines add a little contrast, giving the flowers space to really stand out, just like they did in the tropical landscape I remember so well.
