Fun Birthday Party Photography in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire & the Cotswolds

Some birthdays deserve more than a few phone photographs.

A milestone birthday is often one of the rare occasions when everyone is in the same room at the same time — children, grandchildren, old friends, cousins, neighbours and family members who may have travelled a long way to be there.

And that is exactly what I love photographing.

I'm Eleanor Dailey, a photographer based in Tewkesbury, and I've been photographing people, places and life for more than 25 years.

I photograph birthday parties throughout Tewkesbury, Cheltenham, Gloucester, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds, from small family lunches to large evening parties.

My approach is relaxed and documentary-led.

I don't want your birthday celebration to turn into a photoshoot.

I want you to enjoy it.

I'll photograph the people, the laughter, the cake, the speeches, the surprises, the hugs and all the little moments happening around the edges.

Birthday Party Photography for All Ages

Birthday photography isn't only for children.

In fact, some of the celebrations I most enjoy photographing are the big family milestones.

That might be:

• an 18th birthday

• a 21st birthday

• a 30th or 40th birthday party

• a 50th birthday

• a 60th, 70th, 80th or 90th celebration

• a surprise party

• a family lunch

• a birthday weekend

• or a 100th birthday surrounded by several generations of family

At milestone birthdays, the photographs often become much more important with time.

A picture of four generations together.

Grandparents with grandchildren.

Old friends who have known each other for 60 years.

Brothers and sisters laughing together.

Someone making a speech they insisted they weren't going to make.

Those are the photographs people keep.

100th Birthday Photography — Completely Free

If you or someone you love is celebrating their 100th birthday, I will photograph the celebration for free.

No photography fee.

I simply think reaching 100 years old is extraordinary and deserves to be recorded properly.

A 100th birthday often brings together several generations of a family, and those photographs become part of the family's history.

So, where possible, I offer complimentary photography for 100th birthday celebrations in and around Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire and the surrounding area.

What Do I Photograph at a Birthday Party?

Mostly, I photograph what actually happens.

People arriving. Friends recognising one another.

The person whose birthday it is greeting everyone.

Children running about. Drinks being poured. Food arriving. Speeches. Cake. Candles. People laughing at stories they've heard many times before.

And those moments when somebody quietly puts an arm around someone they haven't seen for years.

I'll also make sure we get the photographs that families usually want — particularly at milestone birthdays.

I can organise those quickly without turning the whole party into an endless series of group photographs.

Relaxed, Unposed Birthday Photography

I'm not interested in making everyone stand stiffly in a line and smile at the camera all afternoon.

There will always be a few posed photographs worth having, particularly when several generations of a family are together.

But the photographs you'll probably love most are the ones you didn't know I was taking.

A look between two people.

Someone laughing during a speech.

Grandchildren helping with the cake.

A quiet conversation at the side of the room.

Someone dancing who definitely said they weren't going to dance.

That's the good stuff.

Birthday Photography at Home

You don't need to hire a big venue to have your birthday photographed.

Some of the nicest celebrations happen at home.

If you're having a garden party, lunch, afternoon tea or family gathering at home, I can simply join you for a couple of hours and photograph it as it happens.

Home celebrations are often particularly good for older birthdays because everyone is comfortable and the photographs naturally include the surroundings and objects that are part of someone's life.

Birthday Party Photography at Hotels, Pubs & Venues

I also photograph birthday parties at hotels, restaurants, pubs, village halls and private venues throughout Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds.

So whether you're planning dinner for 20 people or a party for 150, the photography can be adapted to suit the event.

I regularly work around Tewkesbury, Cheltenham, Gloucester, Worcester and the Cotswolds and I'm happy to travel further.

How Long Do You Need a Birthday Photographer?

Usually, not all day.

For many birthday celebrations, two or three hours of photography is plenty.

That gives enough time to photograph arrivals, people talking and enjoying themselves, family groups, speeches and the cake without making photography dominate the event.

For a larger evening celebration, longer coverage may make more sense.

If you tell me roughly what you're planning, I can recommend how much time you actually need rather than simply selling you the longest package possible.

I charge a flat rate of £150 per hour which includes all the editing and digital downloads.

Why Hire a Photographer for a Birthday Party?

Phones are brilliant.

But there's one problem.

Usually the person taking the photographs is missing from them.

And at important family celebrations, that tends to mean the same people disappear from the record entirely because they're busy organising, serving food or photographing everyone else.

Hiring a photographer means everybody gets to be part of the celebration.

It also means you'll have a proper collection of photographs afterwards rather than 300 random phone pictures scattered across 12 people's WhatsApp accounts.
